Inspector’s Background and Credentials
Employment, 1976 to 1986: Employed as a Representative for U.S. and Canadian manufacturers of fossil fuel heating equipment and related components and equipment.
Duties and responsibilities included establishing regional distribution through wholesale and retaining businesses, as well as training retail sales forces and installation personnel in safety and proper installation/operation procedures.
1986 to 1994: Employed by Vermeer Equipment, one of the nation’s largest industrial equipment companies in the field of underground construction and utilities. Recipient of countless awards as a top performer in sales, and one of the highest producers in the nation for years. As Vice President and Sales Manager, duties included developing and conducting training classes for outside sales personnel. This experience adds considerably to the ability to interact at all levels with the professional REALTOR®, as well as the client, as evidenced by numerous national awards and commendations.
Since April of 1998, Jim has received formal training in Home Inspection and inspection reporting from Steve Showalter at Building Specs., Inc., one of only a few nationally recognized training facilities in the country at that time. Steve Showalter, the principal at Building Specs., Inc. is a charter member, and past president of the Maryland Association of Home Inspectors, and also past President of the National Association of Home Inspectors.
In addition to becoming a licensed Building Specs. Affiliate, Jim has received his certification from M.D.E. for Water Sampling, Septic System Evaluation and Certification, as well as Lead Paint Inspector Technician. Jim is a strong advocate of the “Pick and Shovel” septic evaluation because of the countless concerns and potential problems that conventional dye tests are unable to reveal.
2001 / To Date: Develops and conducts classes for the Real Estate and Home Inspection community, including classes for continuing education approved by the Md. And De. Assoc. of REALTORS® and National Assoc. of Home Inspectors (N.A.H.I. ). Was invited to present a Continuing Ed. class at the national Annual Training Seminars for N.A.H.I. in Clearwater Florida, February 2003 and again in February 2007.
Spoke before the Maryland Real Estate Appraisers and Home Inspector Commission on several occasions to promote meaningfull Standards of Practice for Real Estate Inspections in the state of Maryland.
July 2002: Received Certified Residential Mold Inspector / Instructor certificate, (CRMI designation) from the Indoor Environmental Standards Organization ( I.E.S.O.) to promote and teach proper testing standards and protocols for mold sampling. I.E.S.O. has established the first National Standard for mold testing in the industry.
August 2003: Passed the N.A.H.I. Certified Residential Inspector Exam to receive the “CRI” designation for home inspections.
November 2005: Received Class H Inspector License from the State of Delaware for On-Site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems.
Professional Memberships: Member of the Maryland Association of Home Inspectors ( M.A.H.I. ) as well as the National Association of Home Inspectors. Member and certified instructor with the I.E.S.O. / AIAQC
