| Dick Brogan, DAR’s immediate past president, will be leading a team of DAR members to participate in a Global Village trip to aid in the Gulf Coast recovery efforts.
The Global Village volunteer program consists of short-term house-building trips designed to give concerned people the opportunity to observe and contribute to Habitat for Humanity International’s work first-hand. Working alongside homeowners and local volunteers, team members build a true “global village” of love, homes, families, communities, and hope!
Habitat for Humanity International's affiliates in the Gulf region are working to put displaced families into new homes as quickly as possible. Teams of REALTORS® from around the country are continuing to travel to work alongside them in the Gulf region areas devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. REALTOR® teams are involved in completing Home-In-A-Box projects as well as constructing new homes from the ground up in their permanent locations.
DAR's Global Village Team will be working alongside homeowners and local volunteers.
DAR is seeking approximately 20 members to join the DAR Global Village Trip Team. Each team member will devote seven (7) days to the project (five work days and two days of travel) and assist in the rebuilding of homes in Slidell, LA. Volunteers are not expected to have the same skills as professional contractors. The on-site construction supervisor will instruct volunteers in the correct and proper procedure for performing each task. DAR is scheduled to go from September 16-22, 2007.
Anyone interested in joining DAR's Global Village Team should attend the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 13th at 10am at the DAR office or call 302-734-4444.
