| Join together with The National Association of REALTORS®, Delaware Association of REALTORS® and Habitat for Humanity International to help rebuild the Gulf Coast region through OPERATION HOME DELIVERY: REALTOR® Habitat Partnership for Gulf Coast Recovery.
Almost 300,000 homes were destroyed in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Florida as a result of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Thousands of families remain homeless. These families need our help and we are going to deliver.
Together, REALTORS® and Habitat have pledged to build 54 homes in the Gulf of Mexico region. To do this, REALTOR® Associations in the 50 states and 4 territories will be challenged to raise $70,000 each, with an additional $5,000 match for each from the REALTOR® Relief Foundation. This adds up to a total REALTOR® commitment of over $4 million.
Fundraising will take place through each local board and a Task Force has been established at the Delaware Association of REALTORS®. We hope the membership will get behind this initiative and help to ensure that we raise the $70,000 amount needed to have a "Delaware" house built in one of the devastated areas.
Half of the homes will be built around the country as "houses in a box" and the other half will be built directly in the Gulf region. We look forward to REALTOR® volunteers working on site (1 house will be put together in DE/MD) and particularly during the November 2006 REALTORS® Conference and Expo in New Orleans. If you are signed up for the convention, plan on helping when you get there.
REALTORS® are already frontline advocates for families pursuing homeownership. Operation Home Delivery will showcase the strength of REALTORS® rolling up their sleeves and working alongside the most desperate of families.
